15+ YEARS OF WHEELCHAIR DANCING IN HELSINKI METROPOLITAN AREA

Uudenmaan pyörätuolitanssijat - Wheelchair Dance Club UP (later UP), is an active wheelchair dance sport club located in Helsinki, and it is a member of the Finnish Wheelchair Dance Federation. UP was established in Helsinki on 12 December 2009.

We aim to provide high-quality teaching in wheelchair dancing around the whole Helsinki Metropolitan area. We teach Latin and Standard Ballroom as well as Finnish social dances in our groups, courses and camps. We also arrange special dance courses of different dance styles, e.g. Argentine tango, Bollywood, Dance therapy, Flamenco, Hiphop, Modern dance and Streetdance.

With us you can dance with able-bodied (combi) or wheelchair (duo) partner or without a partner as single or improve your social dancing skills in group dances.

Our teachers are all well trained with long experience in dance sports and enthusiasm to help you learn more. You can also invite us to perform in your event or work place. =)

We have a weekly schedule of classes at different levels during Autumn and Spring seasons at Katajanokka Sports Hall in Helsinki, address Merikasarminkatu 1, 00160 Helsinki (above Hotel Katajanokka). We teach students at all levels in all age groups; everyone is welcome to join our dance groups and camps!

AUTUMN SEASON 2026

► WEEKLY DANCE CLASSES

Our wheelchair dance classes of Autumn season will be held at Katajanokka Sports Hall (map) on Thursday evenings between 3 September–17 December 2026.
Note: Extra practise will be arranged on 15 Oct. during Autumn holiday week.

1) At 17:00–18:30 Star Dancers group 90 min, 15 times / season. Dance teachers are Ms Tuula Brofeldt in Standard dances and Ms Nina Krook in Latin dances.

2) At 18:30–20:00 As You Will group 90 min, 15 times / season. The group consists of short-term dance courses of 2–9 times.

Group classes
100 € / 15 group classes, 90 minutes each
  65 € / 8 group classes, 90 minutes each – only for Star Dancers group.

Dance courses
  40 € / 5 times, 90 minutes each: Ballet on 3 Sep.–1 Oct. 2026
  72 € / 9 times, 90 minutes each: Group dance on 8 Oct. + 15 Oct.–10 Dec. 2026
  10 € / 1 time, 90 minutes

► DANCE WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS -EVENT IN HELSINKI ON 18–20 SEP. 2026

Dance without Restrictions -dance camp and comp will be arranged on Friday, 18 September–Sunday, 20 September at Validia Synapsia House, address Nordenskiöldinkatu 18 B, Helsinki (map).

Standard and Latin dances will be taught by Finnish dance teachers Mr Mikko Ahti and Ms Carola Tuokko. Swedish bugg dance will be taught by instructors Mr Timo Pyykkönen, Ms Therese Helgesson and Ms Zanna Petterson.

PRELIMINARY TIMETABLE

Sat, 19 Sep. at 12:00–20:00 Dance competition and get-together
Sun, 20 Sep. at 10:00–17:00 Dance camp.

It is possible to get private dance lessons from Finnish dance teachers.
